This was is a benchmark against which other heavy sherried style malts are judged and remains so even today, many years after its demise. Its death was mourned by whisky and Macallan fans the world over. Whisky writer Josh Peters wrote, "It was arguably the best thing that Macallan had in their lineup. It was pure tragedy to see it leave and maybe someday they’ll come to their senses and bring it back." Sadly that has not happened and in 2018 Macallan officially announced its permanent replacement, much to the chagrin of old-school Macallan drinkers.
