About Chuck Wagner:

Chuck Wagner was born into a family of farmers and winemakers with deep roots in Napa Valley. He was just 19 when he started Caymus Vineyards with his late parents, Charlie and Lorna, and they spent many wonderful years working side-by-side. After fifty harvests, Chuck continues to make two renowned Cabernet Sauvignons, Caymus Napa Valley and Caymus Special Selection. Several years ago, he launched Bonanza, a California Cabernet Sauvignon that reflects a spirit of discovery and celebrates good wine as a simple pleasure of life. As the Wagners began farming and making wine in Suisun Valley, Chuck also introduced Caymus-Suisun Grand Durif, one of the family's two flagship wines under the Caymus-Suisun label.

Chuck has steered his family’s business from the very beginning to the present day, helping it adapt to an ever-changing and challenging landscape. He has been recognized for his winemaking and industry leadership, and all the while maintains deep humility and an appreciation for family and great wine – wherever it may come from – and the connections between the two.

• Caymus Vineyards Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 750ml

  • Each year, we set aside the best barrels of our Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley to produce Special Selection. Distinguished by extremely fine, velvety tannins and enjoyable upon release or with aging. A wine of structure with intense concentration of supple flavors and dark fruits. Special Selection is the only wine in the world honored twice as Wine Spectator magazine’s “Wine of the Year.”

• Caymus Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 750ml

  • Caymus has a signature style that is dark in color, with rich fruit and ripe tannins – as approachable in youth as in maturity. Since its founding in 1972, Caymus has become renowned as a consistent leader in the production of Napa Valley Cabernet. Grapes for this wine are farmed in a range of Napa’s sub-appellations – from Coombsville to Calistoga – with fruit from the valley floor creating lushness and the hillsides providing backbone. Diversification enables us to make the best possible wine in a given year, featuring layered, lush aromas and flavors, including cocoa, cassis and ripe berries.

• Red Schooner Voyage Malbec Argentina 750ml

  • Grapes for this Malbec are grown in the Andes Mountains of Argentina, then chilled and transported by ocean voyage to Caymus, where we use our winemaking techniques to create a style that is dense, dark and supple. Falling outside standard labeling rules, Red Schooner does not include a vintage date but is known by the voyage from which it traveled (i.e. Voyage 11 is the 2021 vintage). Strikingly smooth, with scents and flavors of dark fruit and fine, textural tannins.

• Emmolo Merlot Napa Valley 750ml

  • This wine is sourced from vineyards in Napa Valley, including land that has been in the family of Jenny Wagner’s maternal relatives (the Emmolos) for generations. We seek out areas with light gravelly soil and ideal growing conditions that enable longer “hang time” for the grapes to achieve full ripeness. We also utilize techniques like crop thinning to produce an elegant, distinctive Merlot. This wine has expansive, dark berry flavors, a fresh earthiness and smooth, leathery tannins.

• Mer Soleil Reserve Chardonnay Monterey 750ml

  • Taking its name from the sea and sun – the two forces of nature that shape its exotic character – this wine is as dramatic as the place where it is sourced. With morning fog, bright sunshine and gusting winds, Monterey county has an extended growing season. Grapes stay on the vine longer, leading to the development of intense aromas such as custard and toasted almonds, rich fruit flavors and enlivening lemon/lime.

• Caymus Suisun Grand Durif Suisun Valley 750ml

  • Separated from Napa by just an invisible county line, Suisun Valley (which became an AVA in 1982) is still largely undiscovered. With its warm days and cool nights, this pastoral region reminds us of Napa Valley in the 1960s. Known for delicious stone fruits and walnuts, it is also gaining recognition for exceptional wine. Durif is synonymous with Petite Sirah, the widely grown grape in the region – we added “Grand” to the name for its grand style. With harmonious tannins, this wine is opulent, luxuriously soft and totally enjoyable.
