Bid now on this rare original photograph from Henry Chalfant's iconic Subway Graffiti Series — a panoramic print capturing New York City's subway cars as rolling canvases during one of the most creatively charged eras in urban art history.

Shot between 1977 and 1980, this piece is a firsthand document of a cultural movement that would go on to reshape art, music, and street culture worldwide. Adding further distinction, this print was hand-selected for inclusion in a custom curated collection by celebrated graffiti artist Mare139 in 2011. Henry Chalfant (b. 1940) is one of the foremost chroniclers of hip-hop and urban culture, whose work has earned a permanent place in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh.

He co-authored Subway Art — widely considered the definitive text on New York graffiti — as well as its global follow-up, Spraycan Art, and co-produced the landmark 1983 documentary Style Wars. His photographs are not merely images; they are primary historical records of a movement. This unique print is signed by Chalfant in pencil on the verso, making it a singular, collectible work with direct provenance to the artist. Its striking panoramic format — wide and cinematic in proportion — mirrors the scale of the subway cars Chalfant so masterfully documented.

For collectors of photography, hip-hop history, or American urban culture, this is a rare opportunity to own an original piece of that story — not a reproduction, not a reprint, but a unique work from one of the genre's most essential voices.
